The Chemistry Research Centre of the University of Minho is composed of a group of 33 Ph.D-qualified research staff and a floating population of post-docs, visiting researchers, students working for their Ph.D or MSc degrees and bursary students. Research projects receive support from the university, through external funds from the Portuguese Government (Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia ou FCT), from contracts with industry and from the European Commission. Many of these projects involve research partners from industry or other universities (both portuguese and foreign) with whom members of the centre maintain frequent contact.
The research activity is undertaken within 4 distinct domains: Biological Chemistry, Electrochemistry and the Environment, Synthesis and Application of Aminoacids and Synthesis and Application of Heterocyclic Compounds.
