The Biological Chemistry research group is involved in a variety of projects that are linked by the use of biological systems or biomolecules as targets or as tools in novel applications. The members of this group have different scientific backgrounds but all have a common foundation in the domain of Chemistry that permits them to contribute to interdisciplinary projects. These projects are carried out in collaboration with partners from other research centres, in Portugal and abroad.
At the present time the research interests may be grouped in three distinct domains:
. Study of the mechanism of textile dye degradation through the use of yeasts
. Metal complexes for medical imaging
. The preparation and purification of biomolecules for therapeutic applications
