Student Exchange

At a time when the educational model is re-focussing on an international perspective, many students are taking advantage of excellent opportunities to study at an overseas university for a period of 3 to 6 months. This period of overseas study offers students valuable experience in a novel environment with new challenges and rewards. Apart from the obvious development of language skills, students can acquire new scientific and cultural references that will equip them to participate more effectively in a european industrial network. The students of the University of Minho may participate in Socrates/Erasmus (EuRopean community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) mobility programs or in Leonardo da Vinci industrial placements with the support of the International Relations Office on the university campus at Gualtar.
Departmental Coordenator: M. Fátima Bento (fbento@quimica.uminho.pt).

Socrates/Erasmus program
Students may participate in this program after completing their first year of study at the University of Minho. The program allows students to spend a period of 3 to 12 months at a foreign university. The Department of Chemistry has bi-lateral agreements with 9 institutional partners in various countries (Austria, Spain, France, Greece, Italy and the Czechoslovakian Republic).

Leonardo da Vinci program
Within the scope of this program students and newly-qualified graduates may take part in a course placement or a period of professional work-experience in a business within another member state. The objective of this activity is to introduce a european dimension into their degree course structure.
Departmental Coordinator: M. Dulce Geraldo (gdulce@quimica.uminho.pt)

For more detailed information regarding the programs, interested parties should contact the appropriate coordinator or the GRI-International Relations Office (gualtar@gri.uminho.pt) at the Vivenda Sameiro, University Campus of Gualtar, Tel: 253 6045056/6.
